2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Front Parking Brake Cable on 2004 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Before servicing or repairing the front parking brake cable, make sure to raise and support the vehicle, lock the parking brake cable and untighten the adjusting nut to create some freedom of movement in the front cable. Take out the front cable from its connector, squeeze the cable fitting at the underbody bracket and pull the cable away from the bracket. Reduce the suspension, then use a small screwdriver to push the end of the cable out of the clevis on the pedal. Squeeze the cable end fitting on the pedal bracket and take out the cable. After that, undo the left cowl trim and sill plate, lift up the carpet and move the cable off the body clip. Next, pull up on the cable along with the body grommet to remove both. To fit the cable, push the end into the pedal assembly hole from inside, put the cable retainer on the assembly and secure it with the cable ball on the clevis. Feed the cable into the floor pan via the grommet and after that lay down the carpet and set back both the left cowl trim and sill plate. Again raise and support the vehicle, feed the cable through the underbody bracket and slide the cable end fitting into the bracket before hooking up the cable to the cable connector. After that, do the park brake adjustment and bring the vehicle to the ground.
