2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on 2004 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: It is important to first take away the accessory drive belt when working on the harmonic balancer or crankshaft pulley. After that, uncork the four bolts connecting the damper to the crankshaft, then take off the damper and speed indicator ring. Look for any cracks on the damper hub and change it if you find any. If the index lines on the damper hub and inertia member are more than 1.59 mm (1/16 in.) off, change the damper. In addition, look for any wear or pieces that are missing on the rubber member. Begin by putting the speed indicator ring over the dowel pin, then attach the crankshaft damper and the bolts, tightening everything to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) torque, followed by an extra 60° of tightening. Make sure the damper puts the access hole over the dowel pin and then fit the accessory drive belt back into place.
