How to Maintain the Speed Sensor in the Transfer Case Rear Extension on 2004 Jeep Wrangler?

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) on the transfer case rear extension must be reached by raising and supporting the vehicle for servicing. Start by pushing the slide tab to release the electrical connector from the sensor and then press in on the secondary release lock on the connector's side before you pull it free. Once the sensor mounting bolt is loosened, pull the sensor from the extension out the rear. During installation, connect the sensor into the transfer case rear extension and lock it in with the mounting bolt, guaranteeing the sensor is seated and flush in the extension before tightening to torque 11 - 16 Nm (8 - 12 ft. lbs.). At the end, attach the electrical connector to the sensor.
