2005 Chrysler 300 EGR Tube Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an EGR Tube on 2005 Chrysler 300?
A: It is necessary to start the process of repairing or servicing by disconnecting the negative battery cable. First, take the purge solenoid from the bracket on the lower tube and place it towards the back. Then, remove and set aside the connector from the EGR valve. Take out the nuts or bolts connecting the lower tube to the exhaust manifold and EGR valve, then lift the tube free from the vehicle. Always check that the silicone seals are not stuck in the intake manifold before you clean the EGR valve gasket, since dirt can result in the valve leaking and you may notice a smooth running engine with low vacuum, giving an unsmooth engine idle. Before putting the lower tube back, clean the mounting spot, fasten the lower tube to the EGR valve and exhaust manifold, tighten the EGR valve bolts to 11 Nm (95 in. lbs.) and the exhaust manifold bolts to 31 Nm (275 in. lbs.). Reattach the wire at the electrical connector, put the purge solenoid in its correct place, mount it to the bracket and link the negative battery cable once again. To work on the upper tube, begin by marking the EGR system parts, next disconnect the negative battery cable, remove the purge solenoid from its bracket and move it somewhere else. Unplug the electrical connector from the EGR valve and then disconnect the bolts that are holding the upper tube in place on the intake manifold, being sure not to drop any rubber seals. Check all rubber seals on the intake manifold side of the EGR tube and wipe down both the gasket surface on the EGR valve and the surface on the valve mounting. Attach the upper tube onto the intake manifold with the silicone rubber seals in the best position and not damaged and then use a new gasket to separate the EGR valve from the tube. Tighten the bolts to secure the gasket, ensuring you use 11 Nm (95 in. lbs. of torque). Make the electrical connection again at the EGR valve, position the purge solenoid as before, put it back on the bracket and make the negative battery cable connection.
