Q: How to Service an Intake Manifold on 2005 Chrysler Sebring?
A: Before starting on the intake manifold, make sure the fuel system stops running, the room is ventilated and nothing ignition is at hand. First, separate the negative battery cable and then drain the entire cooling system. Take out the air inlet hose from the throttle body and the whole air cleaner housing assembly after that. Then, remove both the throttle and speed control cables from the throttle lever and its bracket. Take off the EGR tube and the oil dipstick and pipe, then make sure to cover the hole in the block to keep it clean. Unplug the hoses at the intake manifold and the fuel line at the fuel rail assembly and make sure to hold shop towels around the hoses to catch any spilled gasoline. Remove the screw or bolt that holds the fuel rail bracket to the side of the cylinder head and unconnect all the electrical connections for the fuel injectors, knock sensor, ECT sensor, JAC, TPS, MAP sensor, A/C pressure sensor, A/C compressor clutch and generator. Move the wiring harness aside, take out the fuel rail support bracket and next, pull away the fuel rail. Afterwards, take out the coolant outlet and the intake manifold fasteners to remove the intake manifold. Throw away the gaskets and wipe all the parts that seal together. Check if the manifold is bent, warped or cracked; if it is, change it and look for damage or extra swelling in the gasket, changing it if necessary. For installation, fit the new intake manifold with a gasket, gradually tightening all fasteners to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.) in the ordered pattern. Replace the coolant outlet connector, fuel rail and fuel rail support bracket and relink the electrical connectors and the fastener of the fuel rail bracket. Review quick connect fittings for damage and change them as needed, after that, attach the fuel supply hose to the fuel rail assembly and make sure it is secured. Secure the vacuum hoses to the intake manifold, return the engine dipstick and tube and put in place the EGR tube. We need to attach both the throttle cable and speed control cable to their respective spots, fill the cooling system and rejoin the negative battery cable. After that, use the DRB scan tool to run the ASD Fuel System Test which pressurizes the fuel system and searches for leaks; note that the Auto Shutdown relay will be active for 7 minutes or until the ignition is off or the Stop All Test option is selected.
