2005 Chrysler Sebring Trailing Arm Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Trailing Arm on 2005 Chrysler Sebring?
A: The first thing to do for rear trailing link service is to lift the car on either jackstands or a frame hoist and take off the rear wheel and tire. Take off the nut, bushing retainer and outer trailing link bushing from the trailing link where the knuckle attaches to them. Afterward, take off the four bolts connecting the bracket to the floor pan and frame rail and then remove the trailing link and mounting bracket as a set. It matters that the bushings and retainers in the trailing link are positioned and facing the same direction after removal. To remove the trailing link from the hanger bracket, use a large adjustable wrench to turn the flat of the trailing link while leaving the nut where it is. When attaching the installation components, the inner and outer trailing link to hanger bracket bushings and retainers should not be in the reversed order. Put the inner bushing and black bushing retainer on your trailing link, then screw the trailing link, retainer and bushing into the hanger bracket. After that, fix in the outer bushing, gold outer bushing retainer and nut on the trailing link, tighten the nut to a torque of 99 Nm (73 ft. lbs.) while avoiding any rotation on the trailing link. After that, place the trailing link's knuckle side into the rear knuckle. Install the four bolts onto the trailing link hanger bracket to fit it onto the vehicle and then place two drift pins into both the positioning and locating holes on the hanger bracket to ensure it's in the correct place. Tighten the four bolts that hold the hanger brackets to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) of torque. At the knuckle, put the outer trailing link bushing, gold outer bushing retainer and retaining nut onto the trailing link and tighten the retaining nut to 99 Nm (73 ft. lbs.) using a large adjustable wrench.
