2005 Chrysler Town & Country Drive Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Drive Belt on 2005 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: Begin by supporting the vehicle on a hoist, after which remove the drive belt shield before carrying out any service work. Making sure the drive belt tensioner does not snap back could prevent any affect on the belt tensioner or hurt you. Slide a wrench onto the tensioner little and rotate the tensioner counterclockwise to lose tension. Lift the drive belt and gently lower the tensioner as though it had never been touched. Before placing the new belt, remove all gunk including grease, coolant and dirt from the pulley grooves. You should replace the belt if the wear made by the cord is too noticeable, the cords are frayed at the edges or if the belt is severely glazed. Small cracks found along the ribbed side of a Poly-V Belt system are usual when resulting from reverse bending, while parallel cracks should not be present. Do not put any dressing or restorer on Poly-V Belts. Guide the drive belt onto all pulleys; don't put it on the crankshaft yet. After tightening the tensioner, rotate it back a few times counterclockwise so the belt can fit over the crankshaft pulley and then gently release the tensioner. Make sure the belt goes through all the pulleys correctly, install the shield and then bring the car down.
