2005 Dodge Dakota Fuel Tank Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Repair a Fuel Tank on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before looking into the fuel tank unit, you should drain the fuel and then release the pressure in the fuel system by blocking all air inlets. Before you start, write down which rotation position the fuel pump module is in, using the indexing arrow on top. Clamp Special Tool 9340 into the notches on the outside edge of the lockring. Put Tool 9340 on the 1/2 inch drive breaker bar and turn the breaker bar counter-clockwise to get rid of the lockring which will lift the module upward a little. Pull the module out of the fuel tank without putting any pressure on the float arm. No matter what, remember to place a new seal (gasket) in the installation. Secure the module with a new seal inside the opening of the tank, then cover it with the lockring. Turn the module so the arrow on the embossed rear points to the middle as this will keep the fitting on the module pointed to the driver's side. Attach Special Tool 9340 to the lockring and tighten the lockring with the 1/2 inch drive breaker until you hear the seventh engagement piece click, after which reinstall the fuel tank.
