2005 Dodge Grand Caravan Brake Drum Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Brake Drum on 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: To work on the brake drum, first lift the vehicle and take off the tire and wheel assembly. Following that, remove the cover plug placed over the rear brake shoe adjusting hole. Insert a small screwdriver through the brake hole to hold the adjuster clear of the notches in the adjusting screw star wheel, then push a second thin screwdriver into the star wheel teeth and release the brake by raising the adjuster slightly with the screwdriver. Disconnect the rear brake drum from the hub and if required, put two M8 X 1.25 MM bolts into the removal holes to help separate the drum from the hub. During installation, ensure the brake shoe assemblies are not blocking the brake drums by adjusting them. After that, mount the rear brake drums to the hubs and adjust the shoes as you put the drums in place. Keep the torque to half specification level and tighten all the wheel mounting stud nuts until all are done, then repeat the process to tighten them to the full specification required at 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Lastly, get the vehicle down to the proper height.
