2005 Dodge Grand Caravan Speed Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Wheel Speed Sensor on a FWD on 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: When servicing the rear wheel speed sensor on a front-wheel-drive vehicle, first lift it up and make sure you don't damage the pins as you take out the sensor cable. Check the connectors for any previous signs of damage. Ease out the grommet from the floor pan and take apart the speed sensor cable connector. Get the speed sensor cable out of the routing clips, making sure not to break anything, as breaking the molded routing clips on the brake line will call for a new hose. Take out the bolt holding the metal routing clip onto the axle and pull the sensor cable out from the metal clip. Carefully lift up on the yellow secondary clip at the back of the wheel speed sensor head. Once the clip is up, push on the metal retaining clip until it touches the hub and bearing. Quickly pull back on the head of the sensor to remove it, while holding up the metal retaining clip. To install the sensor, apply some Mopar Wheel Bearing Grease to the O-ring to protect the seal and, if the metal clip hasn't been put in the neutral position, mount it from the underside and push it up to lock it. Put the wheel speed sensor head into the rear of the hub and bunching wheel, match the index tab with the hole's notch and push it in so that it clicks onto the metal retaining clip. Put the secondary clip on the sensor head with the tabs engaging on the edge. Take the sensor cable, put it under the leaf spring along the back of the axle, connect it to the routing clips on the rear brake flex hose and attach it to the metal routing clip with the mounting bolt, tightening the bolt to 16 Nm (140 inch lbs.). Link the speed sensor cable to the vehicle wiring harness by pushing the connector fully into place, then place and push the cable grommet into the opening in the floor pan. After that, raise the vehicle again and drive on the road to test that the base and ABS braking systems are working properly.
