2005 Dodge Magnum Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2.7L/3.5L Engines on 2005 Dodge Magnum?
A: Before servicing or repairing the power steering pump on 2.7L/3.5L engines, first disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable and then drain the power steering fluid from the pump reservoir. Remove the housing for the air cleaner, the tube to the throttle body and then the drive belt. After that, take off the hose clamp and supply hose from the pump, followed by loosening the tube nut to remove the pressure hose. Lift the shaft at the front, remove the three bolts holding the pump from the bracket and then slide the pump free from its bracket. Should the pulley be removed, always follow the correct steps to complete that task. Position the pump above the engine bracket and then tighten the three mounting bolts to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) torque after aligning them with the holes. Each time, use a fresh O-ring at the end of the hose; apply clean power steering fluid and then position it tightly on the pump, tightening the tube nut to 35 ft. lbs. Attach the hose on the pump with the clamp, place the drive belt back on the pump and install both the air cleaner housing and tube. After finishing all connections, attach the negative battery cable to the battery's position, ensuring it is placed well. Now install fluid in the reservoir and start following the initial pump working procedure.
