2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Fuel Tank Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Repair a Fuel Tank on 2005 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: When servicing or repairing the fuel tank, release the system pressure, as it remains under pressure at all times. Start by taking out and draining the fuel tank. Before unplugging the fuel pump module, notice the position shown by the arrow on the module. Apply Special Tool 9340 to the notches on the outside edge of lockring 5 and fit it with a 1/2 inches drive breaker bar before using. To remove lockring 5, spin the breaker bar in the opposite way to the arrows on the module. Take care as you grab the module so that you don't bend the float arm. Place a new seal (gasket) into the tank and fit the fuel pump module into the space it belongs. Cover the top of the fuel pump module with lockring 5 and then turn the module until the arrow on the lockring lines up with the center alignment mark, moving the fuel line properly away from the fuel tank. After fitting Special Tool 9340 to the lockring, connect the 1/2 inches drive breaker inside the contraption and tighten the lockring clockwise until it covers all seven notches. Reinstall the fuel tank after all the other work is finished.
