2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Throttle Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Throttle Cable and Linkage on 2005 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: The throttle cable and linkage can be serviced by first pushing up the accelerator pedal from the driver's seat and removing the plastic holder and wire from the upper end of the pedal arm. After that, pull the cable core free from the pedal arm and remove the metal clip holding it to the dashboard. Disconnect the cable from the routing clip at the dash panel and take your the air reservoir out of the throttle body. Lift the cable housing connector out of the dash panel and feed it into the area under the hood. With the throttle all the way open, pull out throttle cable pin (1) from the bellcrank on the throttle body. Lightly press the release tab (2) using a small screwdriver or pick (3) until the plastic (4) mount falls off the bracket and lets you remove the throttle cable. Slide the plastic mount onto the throttle where it meets the accelerator cable until the release tab matches the bracket's hole. As you hold the throttle all the way open, put the throttle cable pin into the throttle body bellcrank. Put the cable housing into the rubber grommet and push it through the dash panel opening. Once it's through, attach the metal clip to secure the cable to the dash. Get the throttle cable core wire through the pedal arm opening and then put the plastic cable retainer into the carriage. Push it in until it clicks. Afterward, fit the air resonator tube to the throttle body and try the accelerator pedal while checking for any sticking.
