2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: Are All Squibs Utilized in Multistage Air Bag Deployments on 2005 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: All air bag initiators, including extra squibs in the air bag system, should be checked following deployment. The air bag Control Module delivers electrical signals to both the driver and passenger squib 1 and squib 2 circuits which trigger the two air bag initiators in the inflators. Both initiators are frequently used to burn all hazardous substances, but the failure of any part can mean only one initiator is ignited. For this reason, it is important to ensure that the initiators have started working to stop any improper actions with live pyrotechnic products. Connect a diagnostic scan tool to check both air bag squibs if you want to take out and recycle deployed air bags. Get the latest version of the scan tool's software, then plug it into the 16-way Data Link Connector found on the lower edge of the driver side instrument panel, located outside of the steering column. Switch on the ignition and grab and take note of the Diagnostic Trouble Code data. Look at the active DTC information to decide if the driver and passenger air bag squibs are intact. Should no active codes for the Driver or Passenger Squib 1 or 2 open, it's not known if either air bag squib is live and the air bag should be handled and discarded as if they are still active. Since air bags with two initiators can contain pyrotechnic material, make certain of complete deployment before disposing of them. Refer to the Hazardous Substance Control System for the correct procedures, as they need to meet state, provincial, local and federal standards for all air bags and seat belt tensioners.
