How to Maintain an Exhaust Pipe on a 5.9L Diesel Engine on 2005 Dodge Ram 2500?

Service the exhaust pipe of a 5.9L diesel by disconnecting the cables from the battery, pulling out the negative cables and jacking up the vehicle on a hoist. Smear lubricant for bolts and nuts, followed by 5 minutes allowing it to seep in. Remove the clamp connecting the exhaust pipe and extension pipe and unlink the two pieces and then remove the clamp on the exhaust pipe-to-turbocharger elbow and take off the exhaust pipe from the transmission support. To install, slide the exhaust pipe into its place on the turbocharger and the transmission support, secure it with an elbow clamp tightened to 11 Nm (100 inch lbs. of torque) and position it over the flange. Join the extension pipe to the exhaust pipe with a new clamp and set the clamp nuts' torque to 54.2 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). A minimum of 25.4 mm (1.0 inch) must be left between the exhaust parts and the body and frame and you might have to adjust your work if it's not enough. Hold the vehicle down, attach the negative cables to the battery, start the vehicle and check for and repair exhaust leaks.
