2005 Dodge Sprinter 2500 Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2005 Dodge Sprinter 2500?
A: Before working on the power steering pump, turn off the engine and check the fluid to keep from being injured by moving parts. Use either Mopar ATF+4 Automatic Transmission fluid or an alternative; using different fluids can hurt the power steering pump and system and don't overfill it. Close the filler cap after cleaning and confirm your oil dipstick is showing COLD readings at normal temperatures. Turn the steering wheel left as far as possible, refill the reservoir to the proper level and let the fluid sit for two whole minutes. Take the front tires off the ground and turn the steering wheel back and forth 20 times if your vehicle does not have a long return line or cooler. Switch on the engine and check that the right fluid quantity remains while the engine is running softly. With the front wheels off the ground, let the engine idle for two minutes and try steering first to one side and then the other to gauge pump operation. If the result is ultra-foamy or milky, wait for the vehicle to sit for a while and run the test again. Running the vehicle with foamy fluid should be short to not harm the pump.
