2005 Dodge Viper Windshield Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Windshield on 2005 Dodge Viper?
A: Before removing the windshield, first set aside the inside rear view mirror and the cowl cover, then with pliers, pull the windshield molding outward from the bottom of the A-pillars. Carefully separate the windshield by trimming the urethane around it with a cool knife or a pneumatic cutter tool if on hand. Unhook the glass from the radio antenna. Do not start using your vehicle until the urethane has cured at least for 24 hours after installation. Make sure the urethane material forms a smooth and matching surface with the windshield, then attach the support spacers that go at the bottom of the windshield opening. Lay the new windshield into the opening, with its center resting on the support spacers and note its edges before you remove it. Lay the windshield inside up on some padded wood, clean the interior with Mopar(R) Glass Cleaner and a cloth, primer around the entire edge with clear glass primer and remove any excess with a clean cloth. After that, coat the outline areas of the top and sides with black out primer 15 mm thick and the bottom with 25 mm thickness, giving it three minutes to dry. Trim off old urethane using a razor knife so the paint on the windshield fence isn't damaged, then seal the middle point of the windshield fence with a bead of urethane. Set the spacers at the positions shown in the manual and then with some help, position the windshield above the opening, matching the marks at the bottom to the spacers on the fence. Place the windshield slowly on top and guide the top molding while you do it and then push it inwards at the bottom up to the fence spacers, so the top molding will rest against the roof line. Swipe off any extra urethane from the outside with Mopar(R) Super Kleen or a similar product and afterward stick pieces of 50 mm tape at 250 mm intervals to hold the part in place until the urethane dries. After that, fit the cowl cover and wipers, replace the inside rear view mirror and, once the urethane has set, get rid of the tape strips and see if the repair holds by testing the windshield with water.
