- Q: How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Filter for the NAG1 (W5A) 5-Speed on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?A: Ensure your car is stopped on level ground and then take out the dipstick tube cap to service your Nag1 (W5a) car's transmission fluid filter. Pull the brake lever, start the car, but keep the engine speed slow in gear "P." Move through the gears on the selector lever without moving the car. Run for 2 minutes with the transmission warm and fill it with oil until it reaches the proposed oil level if necessary. Choose the proper scanning tool, since the transmission oil temperature can be accurately read only when your vehicle is in Reverse or another forward gear. Lift the dipstick and match the oil depth with the temperatures and, using the Transmission Fluid Graph, figure out if your transmission oil is within range. Adjust the oil amount if it's needed and again check the oil level once the cap is off. Once you have changed or overhauled the fluid, once more put the vehicle on a flat surface and take off the dipstick tube cap. Put in 7.4 Liters (14.8 pints) of fluid and a filter if the two were replaced; if the transmission or torque converter needed their own components, too, add 8.1 L (17.1 pints) instead.
