2005 Jeep Wrangler Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Replace an Automatic Transmission Filter on 2005 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Only use Mopar ATF+4, Automatic Transmission Fluid, when servicing and repairing the automatic transmission fluid and filter. If you disassemble the transmission, put in some fresh fluid and change the filter. First, put the car on a hoist, then place the drain container beneath the oil pan for the transmission. Turn the bolts, see that one already has a seal attached so it can be used again, hit one edge of the pan with your hand to break it free from the mount and then remove the pan. At the bottom of the valve insert a new O-ring and filter, then tighten the retaining screws to 5 Nm (40 inch lbs.). Before you mount the oil pan mounting bolt and patch, restore the space with Mopar Lock & Seal Adhesive. Wash both the oil pan and magnet, replace the sealant with new Mopar Silicone Adhesive and tighten the bolts until you reach a torque of 19 Nm (165 inch lbs.). Open the dipstick's hole, pour in four quarts of Mopar ATF+4 and let the engine run at idle for one full minute. Following application of the parking and service brakes, drive the shift lever through every gear and finish in park or neutral. Fill the transmission fluid to be three millimeters (1/8 inch) below the lowest point on the dipstick and then check it again after the transmission has cooled to its normal temperature (180°F). Making sure the dipstick is in its correct position keeps dirt out of the transmission.
