2005 Jeep Wrangler Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain a Catalytic Converter on a 2.4L Engine on 2005 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before servicing the catalytic converter of a 2.4L engine, make sure the exhaust system has cooled to prevent burns because it runs hot. Be careful during work near the catalytic converter since it can heat up very quickly after you operate the engine. If you're using torches, make sure the flames do not touch any fuel lines. To start, unplug the oxygen sensors to keep the sensors and wiring from becoming damaged. After that, take out the two bolts and flanged nuts from the manifold, then take out the two bolts and flanged nuts from the flange. Remove the small catalyst assembly from your vehicle and slide the exhaust pipe toward the back until the holder on it breaks free from the transmission support. Position the mini catalytic converter assembly on the exhaust pipe flange and the exhaust manifold, secure them with the nuts until you reach 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.) for the former and 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) for the latter. Connect the oxygen sensor wires, bring the vehicle down, turn on the engine and observe whether the exhaust or fumes are touching the body panels.
