2006 Chrysler Town & Country Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid on 2006 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: Always check the owner's manual to know how frequently the fluid and filter should be serviced or repaired for the transaxle. Make certain to use Mopar ATF+4 and swap out the filter when replacing the oil, while cleaning the magnet beneath the oil pan with a clean and dry cloth. For disassembled engines, change both the fluid and the filter in the transaxle. First, support the vehicle on a hoist and put a drain container beneath the transaxle oil pan. Loose the bolts of the pan and tap one corner to release the liquid, letting the oil drain before coming out. Replace the filter and O-ring under the valve body, clean the oil pan and magnet, put the pan back and tighten its bolts to 19 Nm (165 inch lbs. using Mopar Silicone Adhesive sealant). Pour four quarts of Mopar ATF+4 into the dipstick opening, turn on the engine and let it run for about one minute. After applying both brakes, place the selector lever in each position for a moment, ending in park or neutral. Look at the transaxle fluid level and add fluid until it lands 3 mm (1/8 inch) under the lowest mark on the dipstick. Then check it again after the transaxle has heated up to a normal temperature of 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Be sure the dipstick is seated all the way to stop dirt from entering the transaxle. To use the dipstick tube fluid suction method, ensure the transaxle is fully warmed, pick a way to suck up the fluid, place the suction line into the tube and make sure it hits the bottom of the oil pan for full removal. With the suction line taken off, pour Mopar ATF+4 through the dipstick opening until the level gets up to "Full" on the stick, then start the engine and check the fluid.
