2006 Chrysler Town & Country Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Exhaust Manifold on 2006 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: You should begin the left exhaust manifold service by turning off the battery's negative cable. Take out the bolts connecting the crossover pipe to the exhaust manifold. After that, loosen and remove the bolts joining the heat shield to the car and the bolts securing the exhaust manifold and then remove the manifold itself. If your manifold has a gasket, replace it, then inspect and clean everything, paying special attention to all surfaces on the manifold and cylinder head. Check the exhaust manifolds for any cracks or damage and test both the cylinder head mounting point and the exhaust crossover mounting point with a straightedge and thickness gauge to make sure the manifold surfaces are not more than 1.0 mm (0.039 in.) out of flat. Position the exhaust manifold on the cylinder head and use a torque wrench to install bolts on the center runner for cylinder # 4, tightening them for now to 2.8 Nm (25 in. lbs.). Use a fresh gasket and then install the crossover pipe on the exhaust manifold, tightening the bolts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). As you do this, double-check the crossover pipe clamps for any heat- and corrosion-related problems; if you see any, replace them using bolts specifically made from a special stainless steel alloy. Place the heat shield on the manifold, add and tighten all remaining manifold bolts to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Afterward, put on the heat shield attaching nut and tighten it to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Remount the negative battery cable.
