2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Exhaust Manifold on 2006 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Disconnect the negative cable from the battery and raise and prop up your car to begin maintenance on the exhaust manifold. Take out the bolts and nuts connecting the exhaust pipe to the engine exhaust manifold and lower the vehicle. Then, take out the exhaust heat shield, as well as the bolts, nuts and washers that keep the manifold attached to the cylinder head and then remove the manifold and gasket from the cylinder head. If some of the studs come out with the nuts, remove them and put fresh studs in place. Smear sealer on the exposed coarse thread ends to keep water from seeping through. First, place the engine exhaust manifold and gasket on the two studs located on the cylinder head. Then add each conical washer and nut to these studs. Screw in the last conical washer and make sure the bolts and nuts are tightened to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Begin with the center arm and go outward. Replace the heat shields and remember not to fasten them too securely so they do not get damaged. Attach the exhaust pipe to the manifold and bolt it, using nuts and retainers, but don't tighten them fully at this stage.
