2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair the Right Exhaust Manifold on 2005 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Always begin by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery before you raise and support your vehicle. Take out the nuts and bolts from under the exhaust pipe and engine exhaust manifold and lower the vehicle. Subsequently, remove the exhaust heat shield and detach the bolts, nuts and washers attaching the manifold to the cylinder head, followed by you pulling off the manifold and gasket on the cylinder head. If you replace the nuts and pulled out their studs at the same time, install new studs on the threaded side, with dried silicone, to prevent leaks from happening. Place the engine exhaust manifold alongside the gasket, getting it into the two studs on the cylinder head and then bolt them both in place using conical washers and nuts. After that, install the other conical washers and tighten the bolts and nuts to 25 Nm or 18 ft. lbs. Starting with the center arm, work your way out to finish tightening all the nuts and bolts. Once again install the exhaust heat shields, this time making sure not to use too much force on the fasteners so you don't damage them. Insert the exhaust pipe into the manifold, secure it with bolts, nuts and retainers and tighten each to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) torque.
