2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail on a 5.7L Engine on 2006 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Before servicing a fuel rail on a 5.7L, make sure its pressure is relieved since it's constant even when the engine is not running. Change the left and right fuel rails together as a group; don't pull the halves apart at the tube which is not clamped; and be careful to avoid bending or kinking the tube when removing the rails. Take off the fuel tank filler tube cap, then use the pressure release procedure. Take out the negative battery lead, pull out the flex tube between the air cleaner housing and engine and remove the air resonator box at the throttle body. Stop all electrical power flow to the fuel injectors by disconnecting the connectors one at a time, using the red slider and hammering the tab until each connector is removed and making a note of the tags (INJ 1, INJ 2, etc.). Remove all wires from the throttle body sensors as well as the fuel tube's quick connect fitting at the fuel rail. After removing the fuel rail bolts and holddown clamps, move the left side of the fuel rail up and down gently as you pull it until the fuel injectors clear the machined holes in the intake manifold. You'll need to do this for the right side as well. Remove the fuel rail along with the injectors bundled on it. If you want to do so, you might also remove the injectors from the fuel rail. If the design requires fitting, mount the fuel injectors and clear out the channels on the intake side of the manifold. Add a little engine oil to the O-rings on each fuel injector to make putting them in place easier and put the fuel rail or injector assembly in the openings you have machined in the intake manifold, aiming each injector accurately to avoid tearing the O-rings. Place pressure on the right side of the fuel rail until all injectors close, afterward do the same on the left side. Install the four clamps and bolts that hold the engine in place, plug the electrical connection to the throttle body back in and attach all the electrical connectors to the fuel injectors, giving them a good lock. Reattach the clip on the fuel line to the fuel rail, attach the fuel line back to the rail, put the air resonator on the throttle body, fasten the flexible air duct into the air box, fasten the battery cable and check the engine for leaks after starting it.
