Dodge Ram 2500 Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Release Fuel System Pressure and Remove the Fuel Rail Assembly on Dodge Ram 2500?
    A:
An unlike other vehicle systems, the fuel pressure does not drop when the engine is off, so always remember to release it before inspecting the fuel rail. The whole unit of left and right rails should be changed at once and the two halves must not be separated at the connector tube, since they rely on contact for pressure and should not have any clamps. Do not bend or pinch the tube before removing the fuel rail assembly. Begin with removing the fuel tank filler tube cap and then perform the needed fuel system pressure release action. Cut off the negative battery wire from the battery, take out the flex tube from the engine to the air cleaner housing and take away the air resonator box from the Throttle Body. Remove the electrical connectors from all eight Fuel Injectors by holding the red slider back and pushing down the tab with your finger. The wiring harness in the factory fuel injection is tagged to tell which injectors are in which positions. After that, unplug the electrical connections from the throttle body sensors and remove the quick connect fitting for the fuel tube from the fuel rail. Unscrew the front and rear rail mounting bolts and the two holddown clamps. Gently shake and piston the left side of the fuel rail which should start clearing out the holes in the Intake Manifold and do the same on the right, once you finish. Keep repeating until the holes in the intake manifold are cleaned by all the injectors, after which you should remove the fuel rail with the fitted injectors from the engine. In case the fuel injectors must be removed, refer to the instructions in the manual.
  • Q: How to Install a Fuel Rail on a 5.7L Engine on Dodge Ram 2500?
    A:
It's important to clean the Fuel Injector drilled grooves in the Intake Manifold before installing the fuel rail and fuel injectors for the 5.7L engine. Lightly oil the O-ring on every fuel injector prior to installation. Place the fuel rail and fuel injector assembly against the machined openings on the intake manifold, position each injector carefully to avoid tearing the O-rings. Place your thumb on the engine compartment side of the fuel rail and push firmly until the injectors are sitting on their shoulders and then repeat on the other half of the fuel rail. Put in 4 rail holddown clamps and 4 fuel mounting bolts (1). Join the electrical connector to the Throttle Body and all fuel injectors, check that all connectors are securely locked by pushing and locking the red slider (2) and confirm the linkage by gently pulling each connector. Fix the fuel line latch to the fuel rail and attach the fuel line to this, then join the air resonator to the throttle body using 2 bolts and finally join the flexible Air Duct to the air box. Battery Cables should be reconnected and the engine started to see if fuel or air are leaking.
