2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Power Steering Pump on 2006 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Begin service of the power steering pump by siphoning and removing the power steering fluid and then remove the serpentine belt. Make sure you hold the hose onto the pump with another wrench, since it could be risky to pull off the fitting alone and you should tighten any loose fitting to 57 - 67 Nm (40 - 50 ft. lbs.) before leaving it. Even a small disconnect between the fitting and pump causes internal parts to come loose which means a new pump must be installed. After that, sever the return hose and pressure hose. Get to the three bolts holding the pump to the cylinder head by removing the cover from the pulley holes. When installing the pump, fit it into the cylinder and secure it in place with the three bolts fitted through the clamping holes in the pulley access, turning them until they reach 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Run the pressure line back to the pump and reservoir and tighten it to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.). After that, place the serpentine drive belt and finish the process by filling the power steering pump.
