2006 Dodge Sprinter 3500 Axle Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Axle Shaft on 2006 Dodge Sprinter 3500?
A: Before fixing or maintaining the axle shafts, detach the front brake cable and take out the wheels. Disconnect the ABS sensor from the bearing cap with the clamp bushing, take out the brake disk from the rear axle and put the brake caliper with its lines into the wheel house. After that, take off the parking brake shoes and remove the control cable lock. Load the extractor cup onto the tool, then remove the bolts holding the bearing cap, pull the axle shaft from the tube and remove the seal/gasket. You should start the installation by adding the sealing ring and hitting the rear axle shaft into the axle tube. Install updated bearing cap bolts, then tighten them by first turning them in a crisscross manner around the center to 72 Nm (53 ft. lbs.). Replace the brake control cable lock, parking brake shoes and brake disk with the calipers. Place acid-free grease on the clamping bush and slide the ABS sensor in with the bush fully into the mounting hole. After that, fit the front brake cable, operation of the brake pedal a few times to build up pressure and let the brake pads touch the brake discs and then installation of the wheels.
