2006 Dodge Sprinter 3500 Drive Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Drive Shaft on 2006 Dodge Sprinter 3500?
A: Before handling the propeller shaft, secure the vehicle and draw reference marks on the shaft to keep your work aligned. Take out the retaining bracket bolts next and then pull the propeller shaft bolts from the rear axle and transmission at the flange. Remember that the vehicle must have a 3550 mm wheelbase for the brake cable bracket to appear. With the shaft out, fit the propeller shaft intermediate bearing or bearings into the support and screw the nuts tight until the reading reaches 105 Nm (77 ft. lbs.). After that, secure the propeller shaft intermediate bearing support to the frame floor and fasten its bolts until they reach 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.). If your boat uses a brake cable, be sure to install the propeller shaft intermediate bearing along with the retaining bracket and the brake cable bracket. Reach the final step by securing the propeller shaft to the transmission flange and rear axle and make sure the marks line up; tighten the bolts to 70 Nm (66 ft. lbs.) first and then install the bracket, while tightening the bolts to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.).
