2007 Dodge Dakota Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Repair the Automatic Transmission Filter in a 545RFE System on 2007 Dodge Dakota?
A: To start, get the vehicle off the ground on safety stands and then set a large shallow drain pan below the transmission pan. Take out the bolts that hold on the front and sides of the pan to the transmission, loosen the bolts at the rear and pull the front apart so the fluid will drop into the pan. When drained, make the pan level and unscrew the remaining bolts, taking care to avoid spilling any water while moving it aside from the transmission and pouring out the last bit of fluid into your drain pan. After that, take out the screw connected to the primary oil filter (1), remove the filter from the valve body and oil pump and dump the fluid inside it into the drain pan. Make sure the oil filter seal in the oil pump is fully installed and if it is damaged, throw it out, but if it looks good, you may use it again. Once filter 2 is replaced on the cooler return, use Oil Filter Wrench 8321 to take away the filter and remove the used transmission oil and filters as needed. If the bottom of the pan and the magnet have lots of metal, that's a problem; otherwise, having a thin layer of material isn't a concern unless it leads to slipping or delay in changes of gear. Clean both the pan and the magnet using the appropriate solvent. Then use a gasket scraper to remove the original sealing material from the transmission case and pan. During installation, place the primary oil filter seal right against the oil pump body instead of using the filter neck. If the filter seal is damaged, put in a new one in the inlet bore of the oil pump using a suitable tool. Set up the next filter on the valve body and place it in the oil pump. Next, fasten the primary oil filter (1) to the valve body with the 4.5 Nm (40 in. lbs.) screw. If it's needed, attach a new cooler return filter (2) to the transmission and apply a tightening force of 9.5 Nm (84 in.lbs.). Cover the transmission case with a bead of Mopar(R) Rtv sealant, fit the pan in place, put the bolts through the holes and tighten them to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). After that, drive the vehicle down so Mopar(R) Atf +4 can enter the transmission.
