2006 Dodge Dakota Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Repair an Automatic Transmission Filter on 2006 Dodge Dakota?
A: While servicing and repairing your car's automatic transmission fluid filter, use only Mopar ATF+4 and replace the filter when you change the transmission oil, removing any debris that stays in the oil pan. If you remove the transmission, change both the fluid and air filter. First, lift the vehicle on a hoist and put a drain container on the floor under the oil pan of the transmission. Relax the pan bolts, paying attention to the special sealing patch on one bolt, then hit one corner of the pan to release it and let the fluid drain before you take out the oil pan. Assemble a new O-ring and filter on the lower section of the valve body after tightening its retaining screws to 5 Nm (or 45 inch lbs.) Replacing the oil pan bolt should be done only after putting a new sealing patch in the same spot and fixing it with Mopar Lock & Seal Adhesive. Wash the oil pan and magnet, fit new silicone adhesive sealant around their edges and tighten the bolts to a torque of 20 Nm (14.5 ft. lbs.). Place four quarts of Mopar ATF+4 into the tank and begin the engine, idling for at least one minute after going through all the gearshift positions and finishing in park or neutral. Make sure the transmission fluid reflects 3mm (1/8 inches) below the lowest spot on the dipstick and then recheck the fluid when the transmission has reached its normal running temperature of 82°C (180°F). Place the dipstick correctly in the indicated spot so that no dirt enters the transmission as you check the fluid level.
