2007 Dodge Dakota Rack And Pinion Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Prepare for and Complete a Rack and Pinion Installation on 2007 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before fitting the rack and pinion, look over the bushings and fit new ones to any that are damaged. Put gear 6 in the vehicle and make sure nuts 5 and bolts 2 are tightened to 258 Nm (190 ft. lbs.). Connect power steering lines 2 and 3 to the rack and pinion 4 and tighten both hoses to the following: pressure hose to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.) and return hose to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.). Slide the shaft coupler 1 onto the rack and pinion 4, place a new bolt 1 in place and tighten it until it reaches 57 Nm (42 ft. lbs.). Wash the tie rod end studs and the tapers on the knuckles after touching part 5, then insert the tie rod ends into the steering knuckles and fasten their nuts so the torque is between 81-86 Nm (60-65 ft. lbs.). Add the front tires, detach the support and bring the vehicle down. Free the steering wheel, add fluid to the system and change the toe position.
