2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Power Steering Gear Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Gear Seal for Diesel Engines on 2007 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: For diesel engines, be sure to add generous high-temperature grease from the kit to the space between the pitman shaft bearing and oil seals, plus the area between the dust seals and snap ring. Apply high-temp grease to the oil seal and washer so the lip of the seal is on the inside and the outside of the washer is flat. Tighten the pitman shaft seal 8989 onto the shaft with the appropriate driver and handle, then set up the oil seal, the back up washer and the retainer ring. Cover the dust seal in high-temp grease and fit it inside with the same installer and handle. Insert protector 8993 onto the pitman shaft and make sure the pitman shaft goes all the way into the steering gear while seated in the bearing. After warding the cover bolts into new places, tighten them up to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.) and add in the steering gear and pitman arm. As the final step, get the wheel alignment done.
