Changing a trunk or liftgate hinge does not require removing the liftgate; hinges can be replaced separately. Lift the liftgate from the bottom using sturdy equipment. Cut off the harness and remove the washer hose from the liftgate. Outline the place of the hinge using a grease pencil so you don't have to measure again for installation. Get rid of the bolts securing the liftgate hinge 1 to the liftgate. Drop the headliner down slowly and remove both the nuts and one fastener, then remove the hinge from the car. Apply a proper body sealant as soon as you change or reposition the hinges.
