2007 Jeep Compass Wiper Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Wiper Motor Without Damaging the Plastic Drive Link Bushings on 2007 Jeep Compass?
A: Do not try to service or pry the front wiper motor by pressing on the plastic drive link bushings; you should only press on the metal around the bushing, since damage to the bushing means you need to replace the entire front wiper module. Be sure not to undo the crank arm nut from the wiper motor output shaft, because if the wipers are positioned incorrectly, you will have to replace the whole front module. Set up the front wiper motor and crank arm unit (5) onto the bracket (1) that holds the front wiper module. First, fit the motor bracket (4) onto the module bracket and then install and tighten the two screws (2) into the two nuts (3) until you get a torque of 7.5 Nm (66 in.-lbs.). Subsequently, fit the sleeve bushing from the driver side wiper shaft onto the end of the motor ball stud (4) and add the socket bushing of the passenger side wiper shaft over the same motor stud. Put your 19 millimeter or 3/4 inch socket end on the domed side of the socket bushing, grab the crank arm under there with large channel-lock pliers and use even pressure to snap the bushing onto the ball stud. Again, turn the ignition switch ON, activate the front wiper switch ON and then OFF and park the wiper motor and linkage by hand before re-mounting the front wiper arms on the pivots. After that, reinstall the front wiper module (1) in the car and attach the negative cable from the battery.
