When servicing the fuel gauge sender, discharge any air pressure in the fuel system, prevent any smoking or sparks in your work area and work in an area with good ventilation. Open the lid of the air cleaner, cut the inlet air temperature sensor's wires and the connection for the makeup air hose and finally take off the negative battery cable. After that, get rid of the rear seat cushion as well as the plastic cover. Clear the fuel tank's top of any bits of loose dirt and debris you find. Because the fuel gauge needs to be accurate, remove the left module lock ring first, going slowly so you find the fuel pump at the top of the fuel tank. Carefully get the module out of the fuel tank, check that no gas leaks inside the car and release all the fuel from the pump module to avoid spilling any gas in the vehicle.
