2008 Dodge Charger EGR Tube Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service an EGR Tube on 2008 Dodge Charger?
A: First, check which parts are found in the system, upper tube, EGR valve and lower tube. First, take the negative battery cable off and pull the purge solenoid from its bracket so you can move it. Release the connector attached to the EGR valve from the electrical system and then remove both bolt connections from the upper tube that fastens it to the EGR valve. Remove the upper tube from the intake manifold, making sure you don't lose the silicone rubber seals. Anytime the EGR tube is replaced, oil gasket the gasket and replace the rubber seals. Remove any grime from the valve's gasket, as it can result in valve leaking which affects the idle and the vacuum. Don't scrape the surface using a metal tool, as this may weaken the seal during the installation process. Don't let any debris get caught in the EGR valve as you clean it. Look over and wipe the gasket sealing areas and fit a fresh silicone rubber seal for the EGR tube onto the end of the intake manifold, leaving a gap of 17 mm from the tube flange. Apply Mopar Rubber Bushing Installation Lube to the EGR mounting tube hole in the intake manifold, but do not lubricate the EGR tube or the seal. Put the EGR tube into the intake manifold, making sure both seals are good and properly in place. Slot a new gasket underneath the valve and tube and tighten the bolts to 15 Nm. A proper seal can still be formed when the EGR tube flange is up to 2 mm away from the intake manifold. Connect the electrical lead back to the EGR valve and check that no hoses or wires are touching the EGR tube. Come last, hook the purge solenoid back onto its bracket, reconnect the negative battery terminal and fasten the nut to 5 Nm.
