2008 Dodge Durango Starter Motor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Starter Motor for 3.7L, 4.7L, and 5.7L Engines with Manual or Automatic Transmission on 2008 Dodge Durango?
A: For the 3.7L or 4.7L (both manual transmission), make sure the solenoid wire is connected to the starter motor and that it's fastened securely. Place the battery cable on the solenoid stud and tighten its eyelet nut to the right torque, so the starter motor is not still hanging from the wiring. Attach the starter motor to the transmission and use the right torque to tighten the lockwasher nut and bolt. Set the car properly on the floor and join the negative battery cable. Once more, for these engines with an automatic gearbox, start by connecting the batter cable then the solenoid wire. On automatic cars equipped with a cooler tube bracket, place it over the torque converter and bolt it in as described in the assembly instructions. Lift the jack and secure the negative battery jumper cable. Connect the solenoid wire to the starter motor, location the battery cable to the solenoid stud and tighten the battery cable eyelet nut according to the given strength specifications. Install the starter motor onto the engine, set the cooler tube bracket in place if there is one for automatic transmission and using the correct torque, secure both mounting bolts. Put the vehicle on the ground and affix the negative battery cable.
