2008 Dodge Sprinter 2500 Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Repair an Automatic Transmission Filter on 2008 Dodge Sprinter 2500?
A: Perform this procedure by running the engine to heat the oil, then raise and support it on a lift while it's heated. Unscrew the drain plug access plug from the torque converter housing at the bottom and turn the engine clockwise so that the torque converter drain plug (8) is positioned over the access hole. Clean around the drain plug to stop dirt from entering your torque converter while working. After installing a drain pan beneath the vehicle, empty the torque converter (by removing its drain plug) and check the condition of the seal at the drain plug; if damaged, replace the seal. Drain the access plug and install the drain plug (8), tightening it to 14 Nm (10 ft.lbs.). After that, install the access plug for the drain plug. After that, place the transmission under a suitable drain pan and undo the transmission oil pan drain plug (6). When the pan is empty, inspect the drain plug seal (7) and replace it if required. Insert the drain plug (6) and tighten it so that it shows a torque reading of 20 Nm (15 ft.lbs.) Relieve the bolts (5) and four plastic retainers (4) surrounding the oil pan (3). Remove the oil pan (3) and the gasket (2) beneath it. Get rid of the old filter and its o-ring from the electrohydraulic control unit, remove anything from the inside of the oil pan and check if the gasket needs to be replaced. Install both an oil filter and oil-ring into the electrohydraulic control unit, put the oil pan back in place and secure it using the gasket. Place only the oil pan bolts and retainers and tighten them to 8 Nm (70 in.lbs.). With the vehicle on the ground, put in 5.0 L (10.6 pts.) of liquid to the transmission and then check the oil level.
