2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Right Camshaft on 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before installing the camshaft, grease each journal with clean engine oil and make sure the dowel on the sprocket points toward the 10 o'clock position so the camshaft is easy to insert into the bearing caps. Following this, place the camshaft inside the cylinder head and slide the camshaft bearing caps into position, tightening them by hand as you go, while making sure the numbers followed by arrows are in order from the front of the engine to the back. Screw the middle and then outer bearing cap bolts until the torque is 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.), doing one-half turn at a time. Afterward, line up the V6 mark between the two chain links to attach the drive gear of the camshaft to the timing chain. Enable rotating the camshaft with Camshaft Holder 8428 and let the dowel matching the slot in the camshaft sprocket, then put the sprocket on the camshaft. Clean the excess oil from the camshaft sprocket bolt to prevent overdoing it and then hand-tighten in the retaining bolt. When the Wedge Locking Tool 8379 is removed, tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt to 122 Nm (90 lb. ft.) with Spanner Wrench 6958 and adapter pins 8346. After that, attach the camshaft position sensor and the cylinder head cover.
