2008 Jeep Patriot CV Boot Parts and Q&A
Q: How Are CV Boot Materials Chosen and What Is the Replacement Process on 2008 Jeep Patriot?
A: Silicone rubber is used to make the inner tripod joint sealing boots near the exhaust, while Hytrel plastic is used for the seals in standard temperature areas. It's important that the replacement boot matches the same material as the old boot. Slide the inner tripod joint seal boot retaining clamp onto the interconnecting shaft first, then place the replacement inner tripod joint sealing boot there so that the bead on the seal fits into the groove on the shaft. Attach the spider assembly to the shaft so that its chamfer is next to the shaft, letting it push in until the spider retaining snap ring is fully installed. If possible, nudge the spider's body with a brass drift to prevent the drift from touching the outer tripod bearings. Make sure the end of the interconnecting shaft's groove has the snap ring completely seated. Lubricate half of the seal boots service product into each tripod housing and use the rest in the actual seal boot. Make sure the tripod housing is in line with the spider and then push it over both. Place the innermost tripod joint seal boot firmly around the shaft, using Clamp C-4975-A to clamp the seal and tighten the nut till the jaws are touching. Place the sealing boot in the groove underneath the tripod, then equalize the seal boot retaining clamp. Vent the inner tripod joint using the trim stick held flat to the tripod housing so you avoid damaging the sealing boot. Rotate the inner tripod joint of the halfshaft until the sealing boot edge touches the edge of the and then withdraw the trim stick. Using a crimp type boot clamp, attach the sealing boot to the tripod housing with Clamp C-4975-A and keep adjusting until the jaws come together tightly. To latch a low profile boot clamp, apply force to theSnap-On(R) YA3050 tool on the release end of the clamp. At last, install the halfshaft that needs a boot replacement on the vehicle.
