2009 Chrysler 300 Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Remove and Replace a Brake Caliper on 2009 Chrysler 300?
A: For a rear-wheel-drive vehicle, you should examine the brake pads and decide if changing them is required before you remove the caliper. Move the pistons back into the bores by either hand or C-clamp and always use a wooden block on top of the piston to protect it. Always pay attention not to harm or puncture the boots covering the caliper guide pins as you fit the caliper onto the adapter. First, push the guide pins into the caliper adapter to separate the mounting bosses and only then position the caliper onto the adapter, over the brake pads. Line up the caliper holes with the guide pins and fix the guide pins to them, tightening the bolts to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.), holding the guide pins to stop them from turning. Then, fit the brake hose banjo bolt, inserting new washers on either side of the brake line and tighten the bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.). Fit the tire and wheel back onto the vehicle and tighten the wheel mounting nuts to either 150 Nm (110 ft. lbs.) or 190 Nm (140 ft. lbs.) on police models. Raise the truck, get rid of the brake pedal holding device and link the battery's negative cable to its post. Follow proper bleeding procedures at the repair location; if you do not get the pedal feeling you want, complete a base bleed. Then, conduct a road test, making stops along the way to help remove lingering material from the brakes and set the brake shoes in place.
