2009 Dodge Avenger Torque Converter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Torque Converter on 2009 Dodge Avenger?
A: Ensure the notches and sharp edges on the torque converter hub and drive are smooth; if anything is rough, smooth them with 320/400 grit paper or crocus cloth so that no scratches ruin the pump seal or damage it as you align the components. Pour some transmission fluid onto the converter hub and seal lip and then place the converter carefully on the transmission. Make sure you don't scratch the oil pump seal or bushing during installation of the torque converter in the front of the transmission. Guide the torque converter into the oil pump seal opening and then push the hub inside the pump. Shift the torque converter forward so that it fits snugly among the pump gears below the oil pump. Place a scale and straightedge against the converter and verify that the converter lugs move back 1/2 inch from the edge of the straightedge as you press down. If you find it necessary, add a C-clamp to the housing to support the converter, just for the moment. Set the transmission into the vehicle and fill it as described by the vehicle's manual.
