  • Q: What Precautions Are Necessary Before Working on the Instrument Cluster or Steering Components on 2009 Dodge Caliber?
    A: Always start your air bag system disabling process by unhooking the negative battery cable and waiting for two minutes, so the air bag system capacitor will not accidentally deploy during service. Help the vehicle owner to lift the instrument panel into the car and put stud 2 into the dash, making sure reinforcement 2 is holding it in place. Fix the drain tube into the floor, hook up the HVAC wire harness 2 and install 11 instrument panel to cowl panel fasteners, tightening them to 21 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Set two fasteners behind the center bezel, another behind the glove box and then the left and right floor ducts. Hook up the wiring harness for the instrument panel center console and then mount both left and right door scuff plates, the lower B-Pillar trim panels and the B-Pillar trim panels. After that, set up the center console and both side seats, link radio harness 1 to antenna 2 and place the right cowl panel and the glove box. After matching A-Pillar wiring harness 3 and instrument panel wiring harness 1 to connections 2, 3, 7 and 5, set in the left cowl panel and top panel. Fit the A-Pillar trims, the shifter assembly, the center bezel, the center console shifter housing and the shifter bezel for manual or automatic transmissions. Connect the steering column wire harness, put in the steering column and cover the shrouds and if the vehicle has them, install the air bag covers and end caps on both sides. Connect the negative battery cable as the last step.
