  A: Before taking out the shift cable, put the transmission into PARK and lift the vehicle. For RFE transmission vehicles, pull the cable adjuster out of the mounting bracket after disengaging the cable eyelet at the transmission manual shift lever. For RLE transmission vehicles, do the same. Lower the vehicle and, should you have to, remove the insulation pad on the dash before you reach the gearshift cable grommet and pull it out of the panel. Remove the required steering column trim to reach the gearshift cable and BTSI and next detach the BTSI wiring connector. Take the cable out from the lower column bracket and shift lever retainer, let it move inside the vehicle through the dash panel opening and finally get it out the vehicle.
