2009 Dodge Grand Caravan Axle Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove the Rear Axle Shaft on 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: First, you should raise and support the car to take out the rear axle assembly. After removing the wheel mounting nuts, take both rear tire and wheel assemblies from each side. Butting off the screw on the left axle from the left trailing arm parking brake cable and then unscrewing the parking brake cables fixed to the front of the right axle. Then, take out the screw joining the parking brake cable routing bracket to the axle and then remove the two bolts holding the disc brake caliper and adapter bracket to the axle. Assemble the disc brake caliper and adapter bracket, then hang the assembly out of the way so you don't overstretch the brake hose. With the retaining clips removed, lift the brake rotor straight off its mounting on the hub and bearing. Take the wheel speed sensor routing clip away from the axle, dust off the region around the sensor and unscrew the bolt holding the sensor to the hub and bearing. Take off the wheel speed sensor and the bolts that connect the hub and bearing to the axle and then get rid of the hub, bearing and brake shield. Lift the axle by placing a transmission jack or similar beneath it and supporting the center. Then simply remove the bolt and nut holding the track bar to the axle. Remove the lower mounting bolt-and-nut from both sides, then lower the jack enough so you can remove the coil springs. Get rid of both coil springs, jounce bumpers and lower isolators by removing them. Afterward, undo both nuts and the thru-bolt on the assembly holding the axle trailing arm to the leading body bracket, lower the jack and take the axle out of the vehicle.
