How to Service and Repair a Trunk Lid Latch on 2009 Dodge Ram 3500?

Remember to open the tailgate first and remove the tailgate liner before working with the trunk or liftgate latch. After that, open the tailgate and remove the ten bolts that hold the cover inside, then take away the cover. At the control point nearest the latch being serviced, mark the actuator rod with a grease pencil or similar tool. Separate the rod from the control before you take out the bolts holding the latch to the tailgate door and pay attention to keeping the check cable aside. Again, remove the latch and its connecting rod as an assembly from the tailgate and if needed, cut them apart once the assembly is out.
