2009 Jeep Compass Speed Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Speed Sensor on the Rear Wheel on 2009 Jeep Compass?
A: Service the rear wheel speed sensor on a front-wheel-drive vehicle by first connecting the wheel speed sensor head (3) to the back of the hub and bearing (2). Connect it to the wheel speed sensor head mounting screw (1) and tighten it so the torque applied is 10 Nm (89 in. lbs.). Place the wheel speed sensor (3) onto the trailing link (2), securing it with screw (4) and tighten the screw to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.). Use the routing clip (1) to link the wheel speed sensor (3) to the trailing link (2). Fit the rear clamp for the wheel speed sensor cable (3) on the suspension crossmember (4) and put the mounting screw (1) in place, tightening it to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.). Seat the speed sensor cable routing clip (3) onto the outside front frame rail (4). After drilling the hole for the wheel speed sensor cable, direct it over to the shock tower so you can attach it to the body's wiring harness connector later on. Insert the cable for the wheel speed sensor (5) into the body (1) and put the grommet (2) in the hole. When tire and wheel assembly is installed, tighten the mounting nuts (3) to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) and lower the vehicle. Insert the wheel speed sensor cable connector (2) into the body wiring harness connector (3) from the bottom of the quarter trim panel, followed by installing the cargo floor cover. Once done, carry out the Diagnostic Verification Test and correct any errors you find.
