2010 Dodge Avenger Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid on 2010 Dodge Avenger?
A: First, read your maintenance schedules to determine when to replace and service the fluid and filter for your transaxle. Use Mopar® ATF+4 (Automatic Transmission Fluid) alone and replace the transmission filter whenever you change the oil, also wiping clean and dry the magnet in the oil pan. If you take apart the transaxle, change the fluid and filter. The first step is to put the vehicle up on the hoist and position a container under the transaxle oil pan. Loose the bolts connecting the pan to the engine and tap one corner to unlock it, so fluid can drain out before removing the oil pan. On the valve body, fit a new filter and O-ring at the bottom, clean the oil pan and magnet, refit the pan using new Mopar Silicone Adhesive, making sure to tighten the bolts to 19 Nm (165 in. lbs.). Pour in four quarts of Mopar® ATF+4, start the engine and allow it to run for a minute without driving. First apply both the parking and service brakes, then move the selector lever to each gear and back again until you can select park or neutral. After checking its level, add fluid so the fluid is 3 mm (1/8 in.) below the lowest level on the dipstick. Check again when the transaxle has reached its normal operating temperature of 82° C (180° F). Making sure the dipstick is pushed all the way in will help stop dirt from entering the transaxle. With the dipstick tube fluid suction method, need fulfill both the transaxle's temperature requirements, select an approved fluid suction device (Vacula™ or a similar one), insert the suction line all the way into the dipstick tube and make sure it reaches the lowest point of the oil pan so all fluid gets out. After you drain the fluid, take out the suction line, insert four quarts of Mopar® ATF+4 through the dipstick, start the engine and repeat everything for checking and adjusting the fluid level, with the dipstick being seated after the checks.
