2010 Dodge Avenger Shift Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install and Adjust a Shift Cable Properly on 2010 Dodge Avenger?
A: Begin installation by fitting the shift cable assembly into the floor pan tunnel hole and then securing grommet 3 with a little synthetic-based oil. Pass the cable through retainer clip 2, close the clip to fix it in place and run the cable up to the transaxle shift lever. Pull the car back down and fit cable 1 to bracket 2, then put the other end onto transaxle shift lever 3. Secure cable 2 to the bracket for the shifter conduit, attach cable 2 to shift pin 4 and insert cable retaining clip 1. Send the shift lever on the floor to the Park position and the one on the transaxle to N position and tighten the cable adjuster nut to 23 Nm (200 ft. lbs.). First, install center console assembly 1, then gearshift bezel 2 and finally tighten set screw 2 on gearshift knob 1 to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Make certain the engine starter works properly by only engaging when the gear shifter is set to Park and Neutral. Take care of any adjustments needed.
